Nursery
We know that choosing the right nursery for your child is an important and sometimes daunting decision. There is so much to consider, and every family wants the very best start for their little one.
With the school’s focus on preparing pupils for the future, this journey begins in our nursery. Our recent Ofsted inspection highlighted that “Nursery provision promotes independent learning and secure self-care routines,” recognising the excellent education provided to prepare children for the future.
At St. Cecilia’s CofE Primary School, our aim is to ensure that each child feels valued, supported and inspired from their very first day with us. We encourage independence and confidence, gently nurture key personal and academic skills, celebrate and model our core values, and foster a love of learning. These foundations help every child to flourish and feel ready for their transition into Reception and beyond.
Our carefully planned curriculum prepares children across the core areas of learning, supporting the early development of numeracy and literacy skills. Our school’s phonics programme begins in Nursery, and, as Ofsted noted, “Nursery children benefit from early sessions that prepare them well for phonics in Reception.”
Our well-designed, newly purpose-built Early Years provision is a wonderful space, offering 26 full-time equivalent places for children aged between 3 and 4 years old. It gives children the opportunity to begin their learning journey while being closely connected to the nurturing and vibrant life of our school.
The nursery is open on a term-time-only basis and follows the school day, with wraparound care also available.
EYFS Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) covers children from the age of 0-5. The EYFS in our school consists of Nursery (3-4 year olds) and Reception (4 - 5 year olds). The curriculum covers the following areas:
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
-
Physical Development
-
Communication and Language
-
Literacy
-
Mathematics
-
Understanding the World
-
Expressive Arts and Design
Our members of staff are highly skilled Early Years practitioners. In Nursery we have one teacher, one Early Years Educator and a third practitioner. Our staff team provide children with first-hand experiences and learning opportunities, both inside and outside, to enable the children to develop as confident learners in a safe and happy environment.

We offer the universal 15 hours free places as 5 mornings or 5 afternoons per week. In addition, we will offer the additional 15 hours’ local authority funded provision (30 hours) for working parents who meet the Government’s eligibility criteria. For these children, they will start in 8.30am and finish at 2.30pm with the option of paying £6 for an additional finishing at 3.30pm.
Families who are entitled to 15 hour free places but would like to extend the time to 30 hours can do so at a cost of £6 per hour.
The Nursery sessions are 8:30am-11:30am and 11:30pm-2:30pm. There is an option to buy childcare for an additional hour between 2:30pm and 3:30pm for children who are attending afternoon sessions. This again is at a cost of £6.
